Going The Greek Way: Mama’s Moussaka

Today is one of those days when I feel super proud of myself and all that I’ve accomplished. It’s definitely not been an easy ride but I managed to complete a year. A year filled with so much excitement, learning and meeting new people.

I’ve had such a blast this last one year and I thank all my dear readers and followers for encouraging to keep me going.

Here’s a recipe which my mum learnt when she was my age and taught it to me. I thought it was the perfect recipe to share with you’ll today 

For the meat sauce:

  • 500 gms Brinjal
  • to taste Salt pepper and
  • Oil for frying

  • 500 gms Brinjal
  • to taste Salt pepper and
  • Oil for frying
For the white sauce:
Instructions
  1. Clean and wash the meat.
  2. Mince it. Heat the ghee in a pan and add minced meat, onion and garlic. Fry all together for 7 minutes. Then add cinnamon sticks, chilli powder, salt and pepper powder. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the flame and simmer uncovered for 20 mins till the mixture is completely dry.
For the brinjal layer:
  1. Cut the brinjals into 1/2  lengthwise. Then across into slices. Apply salt and pepper powder. Fry the slices till golden brown.
  2. White sauce:
  3. Melt the butter ,add maida, cook for 2 mins. Take the pan off the fire and add the milk. Stir well till the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add salt and pepper powder, cook till thick. Keep it aside.
To assemble
  1. Take a rectangular dish. First put a layer of brinjal. Some of the grated cheese,all minced meat.
  2. Some of the grated cheese another layer of brinjal.Pour the white sauce all over, sprinkle remaining cheese all on the top.
  3. Bake at 175 degrees C for 15-20 mins. Until the cheese melts.
  4. Serve with garlic bread
