Lasagne needs no introduction. It’s every second home’s favourite dish. In fact, it was one of the first few recipes I learnt as a kid from my mama and still makes it to our dinner table more than twice a month.
Originated in the Italian regions of Emilia-Romagna and Marche, it differs from home to home. Every family has a recipe they are proud to own. But interestingly, I recently found out that lasagne has it’s roots in Ancient Greece. The name ‘lasagne’ is derived from the Greek word ‘laganon’ , which was the first kind of pasta ever known.
Layers of pasta sheets with a robust meaty sauce and creamy bechamel sauce, it is a glorious creation indeed!
Inspired by the traditional Lasagne alla Bolognese, I cooked up my own version which is appealing to the Indian palate. Rich in herbs and spices, I present to you, my Hearty Beef Lasagne that’s an absolute treat to your taste buds.
Usually, most people tend to add crisp pieces of bacon into the sauce but I decided to use bacon mince which brings about so much more character to the dish.
Also, I am a huge believer of fresh ingredients. So, I urge you to either pick up fresh herbs from the grocery store or even better, grow them in your garden. But in case you don’t have the opportunity to do so, you can use the dried ones which are more readily available.
It may seem like an extremely complicated dish, but trust me, this recipe is as easy as it can get. Follow the steps below and you shouldn’t have any kitchen disasters.
It is one of those comforting dishes that is so tempting to eat and relish with your dear friends and family.
Even though I haven’t been to Italy as yet, it’s always been a dream to marry an Italian, open up my own little trattoria and hope that this will be the star dish of that menu someday!
